I (Tingmao Wang) am dead — What happens now?

This is a informational page intended to be read by anyone affected in the event of my death.

This is not a legal document, and must not be used as a will or any other forms of legal declaration. This article aims to detail my wishes in common language, and is not designed to be carefully interpreted in a legal setting. With that said, any legal professionals dealing with my death should use this as a reference of how I want things to go, roughly.

Firstly, if you are working closely with the police, please ask them to contact my current employer (which is probably Microsoft UK – you can also find this information in my current resume). If you happen to be in touch with any of my close friends or family, you may let them know about what happened as well. A good way to do this may be to just drop a link to this page (https://postmortem.maowtm.org).

The rest of this article is split into sections. Feel free to only read the parts which seems relevant to you.

Organ donation & handling of remains

NHS organ doner card

Please let my family and doctor know that I'm a prolific organ donor, and I do not wish to impose any restrictions whatsoever on the way my donated organs are used. I'm also happy to donate all of my body. Please do what is best for other suffering people in the world.

In the event that all or parts of my body cannot be donated or used in other way for any medical purposes, I request that my remains be handled in a way that imposes the least cost financially and environmentally.

I'm happy for my organs and body to be used in the UK or internationally. I ask that decisions on these matter to be made based only on pratical considerations, impact and cost, and not on things like whether I will be helping a UK or Chinese patient or research institution.

Funeral arrangements

Any situation involving the death of me is bound to be emotional devastating to a lot of people and especially to my family. As such I do not wish to add to the cost that my family has to bear. Please let them know that, other than those listed explicitly in this page, I do not have any other wish as to how the funeral and any further process should be handled, and I'm happy to go with the most cost-effective option or even without a funeral at all.

Anyone wishing to participate in the funeral should be allowed entry (except for physical security or any other legal considerations).

Cash and assets

All remaining assets and cash I have should be either given to my parents or donated (when the first option is not feasible) to a UK or internationally recognized charity supporting any of the following causes (in no particular order):

Social media accounts

Unless explicitly authorized by me to any other paritcular person, I do not wish anyone to take control of any of my online social media accounts, and I ask that they be left intact.

Intellectual properties

In the case of my death I wish to forego all intellectual property rights (including copyright, trademark and patent, when applicable) to any of my publicly available works, including but not limited to:

Forms of address & other matters regarding communication

Please use she/her pronouns when refering to me.

In the case that my death was determined to be self-inflicted, I ask that nobody attempts to claim that they know anything regarding the motivations behind my act. The reasoning behind such acts is always complicated and can not be reduced to a single fault or occurrence.

You are free to tell anyone about my death, but please do not attempt to do so in a way that would be considered hostile or malicious. Do not claim or imply that anyone in particular was to blame (except for a legal challenge), and do not use this event to convince anyone to do anything or justify any of your actions that would otherwise be considered immoral.
